This month’s Birchbox had a sort of ‘Summer adventure’ theme, and was appropriately named ‘Adventure Is a State of Mind’. The packaging was bright and airy looking, and the products equally matched the Summer vibe.
So let’s get to the unboxing…
In total, my June Birchbox included six items, with a nice mix of makeup, skincare, and haircare products. Every item ties into the Summer theme – from the cooling eye gels to the hair detangling spray with UV ray and heat protection.
Here’s a rundown of all the products I received, and my review of each:
Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle – This spray smells amazing, and the light scent stays with you all day – I could still smell it 8+ hours later on my hair! It’s an excellent detangler, plus it protects your hair from UV and heat damage. I will definitely be using this on beach or pool days when I need some extra help combing through my hair after a swim! (You can find my full review of the Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle spray here.)
COOLA Classic SPF 30 Cucumber Moisturizer for Face – This is going straight into my beach bag! I love it because it’s very clean and fresh smelling, and goes on much smoother than your typical sunscreen.
Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow – This BB cream is really pretty on the skin. It adds a nice sheen without being too glittery (there’s a minimal amount of fine gold shimmer in the formula). It also adds a nice golden tone to your face. Keep reading to see some swatches!
Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Electric Blue – This eyeliner really surprised me. It lasts impressively long, plus it’s waterproof! The electric blue color is beautiful (I’ve been meaning to get a new blue eyeliner ever since my last one ran out, so I was so happy to get this!)
Emi Jay Solid Hair Tie – These ties are supposed to reduce hair breakage that can result from your typical hair tie. I like using these whenever I can, however, they aren’t very flexible and stretchy, so it’s hard to get a good, tight tie when I need it (like when I’m exercising). However, for any everyday loose tie, they work pretty well.
Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels – I’m excited to try out these eye gels. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Skyn Iceland, especially their line of facial moisturizers, so I’m going to assume their eye gels works just as well. Updates to come!
The two makeup products in this Birchbox were both by Marcelle. This was my first time being introduced to the brand, and I have to say, I’m really liking the quality of their products.
I played around with the Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner and BB Cream Golden Glow a bit, and took some swatches on my hand just to give you an idea of what they look like when applied.
The pigmentation of the eyeliner is excellent, and it glides on so smoothly. The BB cream is also really pretty – up close you can see some of the shimmer, but far away, it gives a nice natural-looking glow.
Overall, I was pretty happy with this month’s Birchbox. The best part was discovering a new makeup brand – Marcelle. I’m definitely going to explore their product line further!
