A new eye product recently joined The Body Shop’s Oils of Life skincare range – the Oils of Life New Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-Gel. One of it’s sister products – the Oils of Life Sleeping Cream – earned itself HG status in my book, so I was super excited to try this new guy out! Read on to find out how it worked for my combination skin.
The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-Gel
The Body Shop’s Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-Gel is an everyday eye cream that also doubles an an intensive eye mask. It’s formulated with three precious seed oils including black cumin seed oil (rich in antioxidants), camellia seed oil (high in oleic acid) and rosehip seed oil (rich in Omega 3 and 6). It also contains a hefty dose of caffeine to help shrink under-eye puffiness. All these (plus even more) skin-nourishing ingredients help to revitalize the eye contour, reduce signs of aging, and fade dark circles, ultimately leaving skin smoother and brighter.
The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-Gel can be used two ways:
- Daily as an eye cream: lightly pat it around the eye contour
- Weekly as an eye mask: apply a slightly thicker layer of product under the eye and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. To remove, gently dab away excess product with a damp cotton pad.
The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-Gel Review
The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-Gel‘s texture is one of the most unique formulas I’ve ever tried. It feels like a gel, only a little bit thicker and creamier. If you look closely, you can see they’ve add some shimmer to the formula, (which I honestly do not know why – it makes the cream-gel look less like a luxury eye product, and more like something a kid might use. The shimmer is quite noticeable too, in randomly scattered spots all around the eye – not a fan!)
It only takes the smallest amount (I’m talking about quart of a pea size) to cover the entire eye area. The formula dries super fast and leaves a completely matte finish to my skin. It doesn’t provide very much in terms of hydration (so I wouldn’t recommend this for dry skin), however it does make my skin area feel very smooth and soft. The biggest downside is that the formula leaves behind a film that ‘rolls off’ when I rub my fingers on my skin. This is an immediate turn-off for me. I like my eye creams to absorb completely, without leaving behind a residue that coats (and possibly even weighs down) the eye area throughout the day.
I’ve since gone back to using my regular cream eye cream in the mornings. But nighttime is a different story – that’s when I’ll reach for the Oils of Life Eye Cream-Gel. I’ve started using it as a sort night cream + overnight mask combo and it has been working wonders! What I’ll do is slather on a generous layer all around my eye area before I go to bed, typically 2-3 times per week. (Because it dries so quickly, greasy pillows aren’t a problem.) The next morning (and after a quick rinse), my skin will look and feel so much softer, smoother, and even brighter! (Before and after photos to come!)
Wrap-Up
So to sum it all up, here’s my list of pros and cons for the The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-Gel:
Pros:
- a little goes a long way
- fast absorbing
- non-greasy
- smooths and softens the eye area
- brightens
- works as an amazing overnight mask!
Cons:
- not very hydrating
- leaves a residue/film on the skin (makes it not the best for daytime wear under makeup)
- contains a lot of necessary shimmer
Overall, if you’re looking for a smoothing, softening, and brightening treatment for your eyes, The Body Shop Oils of Life Eye Cream-Gel is definitely worth trying out. While as a morning/daytime cream I find it dries way to quickly (leaving behind a residue and not enough hydration), as a nighttime/overnight mask, it works beautifully, and leaves the skin looking fresh and radiant after a quick rinse.
