After trying out Buxom’s high shine, lip-plumping Full-On Lip Polish in the cult-favorite shade ‘Dolly’, I was anxious to try out their new shimmer-free version, called the Full-On Lip Creams. Here’s my review, along with swatches of two summer-perfect pastels in “Pink Champagne” and “Peach Daiquiri”.
Buxom Full-On Lip Cream Review
Open the frosted tube and you’re invited in by the gloss’ sweet vanilla, cupcake-like scent. It comes with a small doe foot brush that applies the creamy formula over the lips, adding gorgeous shine, extra hydration, and just a slight hint of color. Then the cooling and tingling sensation kicks in. It’s a subtle sensation, but very long lasting (on me, it lasts 40+ minutes!). (If you have super sensitive lips, or live in a very cold environment, you may want to test these out beforehand to judge their intensity!)

What causes the tingling and plumping effects? Menthone Glycerin Acetal, a menthol derivative. Supposedly, it plumps by slightly irritating the sensitive skin on the lips, increasing blood flow and causing them to temporarily swell, kind of like a bee sting. (I know that may sound unpleasant, but it is known to work – the same way cinnamon, caffeine, and straight menthol works. Fortunately, Menthone Glycerin Acetal is a more mild form of menthol, so it’s not quite as irritating.) To top it off, the gloss uses moisturizing ingredients and shine to further enhance the glosses plumping effects. For me, this effect kicks in after about 5 minutes, making my lips look (and feel) slightly fuller and plumped.
The formula is just the slightest bit sticky, though still comfortable. This may help them adhere to the lips better though – I’ll often get a little bit longer wear from them compared to my other glosses. Typically wear time is about an hour and a half (with light drinking and no eating).

Buxom Full On Lip Cream in Peach Daiquiri (2 layers)
Summary
Pros:
- Gorgeous, glass-like shine
- Formula applies smooth and creamy
- Subtly plumps lips
- Above average longevity compared to other lip glosses
Cons:
- Color settles into lip lines (best applied over lipstick to avoid this, or in one light layer on bare lips)
- Slightly sticky/tacky consistency
- Tingly-cool feeling lasts quite a while and may be a bit bothersome
Overall, if you’re looking for a sheer plumping lip gloss to pair with a lipstick, or wear on its own for a quick summer lip look, the Buxom Full-On Lip Creams are an affordable option, so long as you don’t mind their long-lasting cooling effects!
