Today I wanted to share a couple of new clean beauty products I’ve been reaching for lately from Habit Cosmetics. Originally a nail polish brand, they now offer a line of clean, organic cosmetics, including The Ultimate cream colors and Bright Lights creme highlighters. Not only are they super pigmented, yet foolproof to apply, they’re also made with good-for-your-skin ingredients and multi-use, earning them a spot in this month’s minimalist makeup favorites.
Habit Bright Lights Creme Highlighter
Habit’s Bright Lights creme highlighters are packed with moisturizing plant-based oils that add “soft-focus illumination wherever you want it”. Topped off with shimmery mica, they create an ethereal glow on the cheeks, in the corners of the eyes, or wherever else you choose to apply it.
Meanwhile, they double as skincare thanks to 1) organic sunflower oil, which helps prevent skin damage and moisture loss, 2) organic sesame seed oil, which helps protect skin while boosting collagen production, and 3) organic sea buckthorn oil, which promotes skin hydration, elasticity, cell regeneration while also reducing inflammation. Combined with loads of other organic oils, these highlighters help to naturally “brighten, nourish and defend against free radical damage”.
Habit’s Bright Lights highlighters are currently available in three shades, all featuring gorgeous, multi-tonal shimmer –
- Hollywood Babylon – a silvery-white
- Starchild – a warm lavender
- Gatsby – a brilliant copper
Habit The Ultimate Multi-Use Creme Color
Similar to Bright Lights, Habit’s The Ultimate creme colors are multi-use, meaning you can use them as a blush, lip tint, lipstick, and even eyeshadow (I especially love using these in the crease to add depth!). Their ultra-pigmented, yet creamy formula features a nourishing blend of moringa oil, a “golden-hued antioxidant powerhouse with moisturizing and anti-aging abilities”, plus organic shea butter and organic avocado oil, which together help to boost moisture, reduce inflammation, protect skin, and promote collagen production.
Habit’s The Ultimate creme colors are available in five shades to suit fair to deep skin tones –
- Pretty Baby – a toasted pink-beige
- Candy Darling – a bright, bold berry
- Exhibit A – cool raspberry red
- Mod Squad – a velvety terracotta rose
- Velvet Underground – a silky burnt sienna brown
Both the Bright Lights highlighters and The Ultimate creme colors are made with 95% natural ingredients (75% organic) and 5% safe synthetics. They’re also certified vegan, cruelty-free and gluten-free.
Habit The Ultimate & Bright Lights Review
Above are swatches of Habit Bright Lights in Hollywood Babylon and The Ultimate in Pretty Baby. They are the lightest shades in both shade ranges available. Together, they make the perfect combo for fair all the way up to light-medium skin tones, since the formulas are incredibly pigmented and buildable, but also easy to sheer out over fairer skin.
Here’s a quick step-by-step demo where I applied both shades to create a super simple, glowy cheek look. The whole process only takes me ~30 seconds to apply in the mornings – it’s super quick! I’ve also found that the fingers work best for a quick and easy application – they help ‘warm up’ the formulas, making them easier to blend out for a seamless look.
Step one – color! Habit’s The Ultimate creme color offers a pack of pigment in just one swipe. The shade Pretty Baby, which I’m using above, is a muted pinky-beige that I imagine would suit fair to light-medium skin tones, with both cool and warm undertones. Though super pigmented, the oil-rich formula is easy to work with and blends out effortlessly and seamless, no matter how you layer it up.
Since Pretty Baby is the lightest shade and I have light-medium skin, I’ll apply two layers on my cheeks to get that warm, slightly contoured look you see above – it’s still very subtle and natural-looking, which I love, yet really elevates a bare face, adding a bit more ‘polish’. The oils also add a glowy sheen, so it also acts as a very subtle highlight where the lights hits.
On the lips, The Ultimate cremes add semi-opaque color and a layer of moisture in just the first coat. A second coat provides full coverage, though one thing to note is that because they are so oil-rich, they’re have the longevity of a lip balm more so than a lipstick, so expect to re-apply quite often. On the cheeks however, for me they last a good 5-6+ hours and don’t easily ‘melt away’ like other creams I’ve tried in the past, which is a huge plus!
Next step – turning up the glow. Like the creme colors, Habit’s Bright Lights highlighters are both buildable and versatile. They can be applied to the cheekbones, eyes, cupids bow, and any other feature you want to illuminate.
The shade Hollywood Babylon, which I’m using above, is a silvery shade packed with multi-tonal, micro shimmer in cool greens, purples, and pinks. Once blended out, the oils add a natural dewiness (without feeling heavy or greasy), while the shimmer packs an ethereal punch that’s both gorgeous and fun, yet not too over-the-top, making them perfect for a quick weekend look or after-work outing.
Longevity-wise, similar to The Ultimate creme colors, Bright Lights lasts around 5-6+ hours on me, thanks to their unique cream formula that feels silky rather than oily or greasy. (I think one reason for this may be because they don’t contain coconut oil, which never seems to set on my oily/combo skin!)
Above is a little before and after. On the left, I’m wearing no makeup, while on the right, I’m wearing Habit’s The Ultimate creme color in Pretty Baby on the cheeks, lips, and eye crease, and Bright Lights highlighter in Hollywood Babylon on the cheekbones and brow bone. Together, they add color and depth, topped off with a gorgeous glow that can be seen from almost every angle. Most days, I’ll simply finish up with a little concealer, brow powder, and mascara, and be on my way!
