How to Use
The sky is the limit when it comes to the Moonstone Drops‘ uses. But first, make sure to shake the bottle so you get an even mix of shimmer and oil. From there, I’d recommend dispensing 1-2 drops from the glass dropper on your fingers to warm the formula up a bit, then apply anywhere you want to add hydration and glow. Here are a few ways to use it:
- As a daily moisturizer, or in conjunction with other serums/creams (use as the last step)
- Mixed with foundation, serums, and moisturizers to boost their moisturizing and illuminating effects
- As an under-eye treatment to brighten while diffusing fine lines and dark circles
- As a makeup primer
- As a highlighter on the cheekbones, cupid’s bow, bridge of nose, and corners of the eye
- As a lip conditioner and primer, or lipstick ‘topper’ to add radiance to matte lipsticks
- As a hair oil to add hydration and shine
- As an illuminating body oil

Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Drops Review
Even before you open the bottle, you can catch a whiff of the oil’s herbal scent. Although it features a mix of both lemongrass and lavender oil, to me it smells like straight up lemongrass (which I personally enjoy, however if you’re sensitive to scents, be careful as it is quite strong). Once on the skin, the scent looses its sharpness, and then lingers for a good 1-2 hours before it fades.
The drops themselves are packed with very finely-milled, cool pink shimmer, which creates an all-over pearlescent effect on the skin that diffuses imperfections. There are also some larger specks of white and gold shimmer thrown into the mix, but they’re far and few between, and still very subtle.
The texture feels very similar to that of Josie’s 100% Pure Argan Oil Light, only I find it to be even thinner and more lightweight. It’s exceptionally easy to spread, and absorbs within just a few seconds, leaving the skin feeling like silk – not slippery or greasy. The argan oil instantly softens, smooths, and locks in moisture, giving the skin a healthy sheen. Meanwhile, the super fine cool pink pearls blanket the skin in subtle luminescence without appearing frosty or glittery.

I imagine the Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Drops would be great for all skin types – they do an amazing job at hydrating even very dry skin, while at the same time balancing out oily skin and preventing it from producing excess oil. Like all of Josie’s argan oils (including her original and Light formulas), I’m able to wear these Moonstone Drops all day without my combination skin turning into an oily, shiny mess. In fact, I’ve been noticing a decrease in oil production compared to my skin’s norm. The only thing that could be an issue for some are the essential oils, as they may be irritating for those with sensitive skin, or a sensitive nose. Make sure to do a patch test first if you have either.
