Today I wanted to share my latest Julep Maven box – the February 2017 ‘Cozy In Love’ themed box! I had been skipping boxes for the past year now (December 2015 was my last one!) only because I had accumulated way too much polish. But it being my birthday month and all, I decided to treat myself again. I ended up going with one of the curated boxes, and sticking with their picks instead of swapping anything out. Let’s take a look inside!
My February 2017 Julep Maven box arrived with two of their new nail shades – August and Jolene – and their It’s Balm Full-Coverage Lip Crayon in the shade Blossom Pink (one of their four brand new shades).
Julep Nail Polishes | August & Jolene
Julep Nail Polish in August – August is a chocolate cherry shade with ‘ghost shimmer’ which translates to very fine, silver shimmer. The formula is amazing – it glides thick and opaque and has beautiful, glossy finish. After two coats though, it almost looks black – I wish they make this a bit lighter. I’m thinking I may try layering this with another color to try and get that true chocolate cherry to come though.
Julep Nail Polish in Jolene – The second polish shade I got was Jolene, which described as an iron ore metallic. One coat provides a light layer of glitter, two gives about 90% coverage, and a third gives completely opaque, metallic coverage that looks gorgeous! It comes out to an almost dirty green-silver that makes for an interesting twist off the average gold or silver metallic tones.
Like all of Julep’s polishes, even without a top coat, they provide amazing longevity. Dry time can take a bit longer than other polish brands, however once set, they’re indestructible for the first 2-3 days, and easily last me a full week. They’re all 5-free, vegan-friendly, and formulated with strengthening Hexanal, antioxidant green coffee extract, and Oxygen Technology (this allows oxygen to reach the nail bed while you wear the polish, keeping them healthy and strong).
Julep It’s Balm Full-Coverage Lip Crayon
Julep’s It’s Balm Full-Coverage Lip Crayon in Blossom Pink – This lipstick provides color and a treatment for your lips, all in one. At its core, you’ll find a super-hydrating treatment consisting of sunflower butter and vitamin E. Around the outside of the lipstick are finely-milled pigments that provide full on color with a semi-gloss finish.
This is my first time trying the Julep’s It’s Balm lippies and I’m really loving them! The formula is so smooth and creamy and hydrates my dry lips. The pigmentation is also very impressive and provides full coverage in just two swipes. The only downside is that they don’t last particularly long due to the creamy formula, which easily slips off the lips while drinking and eating.
Wrap-Up
Overall, I was very happy with this month’s Julep Maven box. The polishes are amazing quality (as always!), and the shades are fun and unique (both of which are unlike anything I currently have in my collection). The It’s Balm lippie is foolproof, pigmented, and hydrating – I can’t wait to pick up some more shades!
