Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara
I had a chance to try out the new Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara thanks to a sample from my last Ulta order. So far, I’ve only ever tried one other Lancome mascara (their Virtuous Drama Mascara, which I believe has been discontinued), and was very impressed by what it did for my lashes, so I was anxious to try out this one too.
What it Does
Taken straight from Sephora‘s website, here’s the description of the Hypnose Drama Mascara:
What it is:
A mascara that creates full body, high-volume lashes in a single stroke. What it does:
Get dramatic eye looks when you brush on Hypnose Drama. The full contact brush, with its S-shaped curve, grasps, and coats lashes for a bold, eye-popping, full body fringe—immediately giving a false-lash look.
So let’s take a look at the funky looking s-shaped wand, and then some before and after shots.
How to Apply
Mascaras come with all different kinds of lash wands that provide different amounts of coverage, volume, separation and curl. This is the first time I’ve ever used an s-shaped wand, but already, I can see why it’s quite genius.
If you look under the “How to Use” section of Sephora, you’ll see they give you four suggested ways to sort of play with the brush/wand to apply the mascara.
Suggested Usage:
-Using the full contact brush, with its S-shaped curve, apply to lashes for eye-popping, full body fringe in one stroke – mega volume.
-Utilize the S-shaped brush to fill the base of lashes and fan outer corners. Hit selected areas of the lash with extra volume.
-With the brush curved with the eye, push into lashes and work from side to side. Rotate brush so the curve is “cradling” the lashes, then pull straight up and out.
-Point wand straight up or down, push or pull the brush from the root to tips of lashes.
I found that if you use it at the right angle, it really does make it easy to apply the mascara in the outer corners and the base of the lashes. It also seems to be perfect for curling your lashes and holding the curl too.
My Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara Review
Now for the application of Hypnose Drama mascara on the eyes to see the full effect. Note that with each coat, I used quick strokes starting from the base of the lashes to the tip. I didn’t do anything crazy to work the product into the lashes, or point the wand straight up and down or anything like that. My goal was to show you what the typical application of only a few coats could achieve, and not over-dramatize the results. (Please note that I do curl my lashes before applying the mascara.)
Before Applying Mascara
After One Coat of Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara
Immediately after applying just one coat, I already see an increase in the curl of my lashes compared with what my eyelash curler gave me. The mascara also seems to hold the curl in place (my lashes stayed like this for the remainder of the day), it keeps the lashes nice and separated, and there’s even a significant increase in length.
After Two Coats of Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara
After two coats, I started to see some loss of separation in the lashes, but there was a large gain in volume, especially around the base of the lashes.
Overall, I’m loving the Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara. To me, it’s worth the higher price point (retails at $27.50), simply because you don’t need to layer this on, coat after coat, to see a difference. It’s also amazingly quick and easy to apply, and lasts all day long.
Where to Buy
The Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara is available online at major department stores including Nordstrom.com.
This mascara also comes in a waterproof version, which is great for the summer months!
