So today I wanted to review the latest additions to my lipstick collection – the Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom lipsticks. If you follow my blog, you may have seen a previous post on my order from BaubleBar where they did a little cross promo with Maybelline and included a Rebel Bloom lipstick with all jewelry purchases. I reviewed Lilac Flush, and fell in love with the creamy formula and bright color selection.
About a week later, while shopping at Wegmen’s, I couldn’t help myself from wandering over to the makeup section and picking up another, this time in Hibiscus pop, another bright color that’s perfect for spring!
Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick Review
The Maybelline Rebel Bloom lipsticks are quite creamy, though not the most moisturizing. I noticed the formula tends to settle into the lines of my lips and brings out any dryness. So before applying, I would definitely recommend using some lip balm, not only to moisturize your lips, but to also create that extra layer of separation (and act almost as a primer).
As far as pigmentation, I would say the Rebel Bloom lipsticks are about average. For me, it took about 4-5 swipes on the lips to build up a good amount of color. The formula isn’t quite opaque, but more of a sheer coat of color.
Longevity is not this lipstick’s strong point, but then again, I’ve experienced about the same staying power from some of my MAC lipsticks.
As you can see from the swatches as well as on the lips, the Maybelline Rebel Bloom Hibiscus Pop and Lilac Flush shades look quite similar. Lilac Flush however contains more blue tones, and would look good on cool skin tones. Hibiscus Pop, on the other hand, would look good on just about any skin tone – warm or cool.
Overall, I’m really like the color selection in the Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom collection, and for the price, you really can’t beat it! They retail for around $7.49 at drugstores, as well as online at Ulta.com.
