It’s only October, but the cold weather is already creeping in. Here in Cali, it’s not quite as chilly as my hometown of Pennsylvania. Temps are still averaging at around 70-75 degrees F during the day, but once the sun sets, it drops a good 15-20 degrees. I’ll take a walk to the market at 2pm in shorts and a tee, only to trade them for a pair of jeans and a toasty sweater or jacket before heading out the door again past 5pm.
If I’m going out for a day trip, I’ve learned to come prepared, and that’s where comfy, cozy sweaters make the perfect travel companions. They’re easy to wrap around the waist and toss on once the chill hits. And as the weather gets even colder, I imagine I’ll be wearing them non-stop until spring. To mix things up, I’m loving sweater styles that feature little ‘extras’ that keep things interesting, especially the five below…
The Slouchy Sweater
For when you want the warmth, bulk, and relaxed fit of a chunky sweater, but still want to look chic and sophisticated. This sweater’s thick, slouchy knit and turtleneck keeps you comfy and toasty, while the rich fall-ready colors, sleek ribbing, and billowy shape elevates the sweater to a classy, work and date-appropriate piece.
The Dolman Sleeve Sweater
Another great slouchy yet sophisticated sweater to pair with slim jeans or a fitted skirt. The loose dolman sleeves and lightweight knit on this sweater makes it breathable and comfy, while the overall shape creates a chic silhouette. Grey and navy are wardrobe staples, but I’m especially loving this deep orange color for fall!
The Wrap-Front Sweater
Comfy – yet sexy! A wrap sweater is perfect for tossing on for a dinner date or evening out. Pair with a lacy bralette to add some extra detail around the neckline. Or, toss over a cami and a pencil skirt or trousers for work to look classy while keeping warm in a chilly office.
The Balloon-Sleeve Sweater
This is the perfect soft cotton sweater for everyday, but with a twist: romantic, billowy balloon sleeves. It also features relaxed stitching and subtle accent patterns along the front. I’m especially loving this style in ivory (which, to me, gives it a more feminine and vintage feel), but it also comes in gorgeous fall tones like gold and red.
The Cropped Sweater
This cropped sweater is the perfect complement to a pair of high-waisted jeans. The soft chunky knit layers perfectly over a tank when you need a little extra warmth, while the relaxed stitch keeps it airy and breathable. I also love the crisscross detailing just under the shoulders. I purchased the burgundy version of this sweater last year and it’s been holding up very well – I’m thinking about grabbing the light blush/pink shade next!
