Pixi, a somewhat ‘cutesy’ budget-friendly skincare and makeup line, has been on my radar ever since I first spotted them at Target years ago. Shortly after, I started seeing their now infamous ‘Glow Tonic‘ and ‘Glow Mist‘ pop up all over Instagram and blogs – with rave reviews too – and my excitement to try out the brand only increased.
I ended up trying out their Glow Tonic a few months back, but was only marginally impressed. (Have you guys tried it out? What are your thoughts?) However, when it came to Pixi’s MatteLast Liquid Lip lipsticks, now those impressed me. So much so that they even earned a spot in my current everyday lippie line-up, which I never thought would include a liquid lipstick.
Why’s that? Because more times than not, they feel uncomfortable (very heavy and dry), and require quite a bit of maintenance. The MatteLast Liquid Lip lipsticks however, are neither. I’ll apply one quick swipe using the large doe-food applicator, press my lips together, use my finger to even out the color, and be done – it’s that quick and easy. Each shade provides full, even coverage with a matte finish. The formula sets within seconds, leaving behind just the slightest tacky feeling, likely due to the added rosehip oil – but I’ll take it! Thanks to this added moisturizing ingredient, the lipstick doesn’t crack or settle into my lines when I stretch my lips, and it feels lightweight, comfortable, and dare I say hydrating!
Most impressively, these lippies don’t transfer, smear, or rub off (I took forever for me to remove the swatches on my hand from the photo above. They didn’t budge with water and rubbing – I had to pull out one of my makeup remover wipes to complete the job!). On my lips, the last just as long through light eating and drinking, and they also fade evenly and naturally.
When it comes to shades, I did find the photos on Pixi’s website to be a bit deceiving. They make a lot of the shades look more mauve toned, when in reality, they dry down to warmer, more beige-y tones. I really do hope they expand on the collection in the future and maybe add a few more cooler-toned pinks and purples. However, the shade collection right now definitely offers a great selection of everyday-wearable shades, including two neutral beiges (Matte Beige and Pastel Petal, on the top photos), two slightly cooler roses (Evening Rose and Really Rose), and one warm rose-coral (Au Naturalle).
